35 animals adopted at shelter’s EDC event involving furry friends
LAS VEGAS (KLAS)– Do Las Vegas residents wish they could experience EDC one more time in 2024? Well, it’s possible but this particular EDC, or the Electric Doggy Carnival, came with a furry twist.
The event, hosted by The Animal Foundation, was a special edition of Electric Doggy Carnival and invited everyone to meet and greet adorable, ready-to-adopt dogs during a special evening adoption event. The evening ended with success and the adoption of 35 animals.
Somewhat like the original festival, it offered an exciting atmosphere, but with a focus on finding a forever home for the dogs. The first 100 guests enjoyed free ice cream and glowsticks to brighten the night.
The event gave animal lovers a chance to beat the heat and check out hundreds of larger and medium-sized dogs in need of homes.
“It’s cool and not too many people are here where you’re bumping into each other and getting frustrated. I’m looking to go home with a dog today,” Lillian Gloria said.
CEO of The Animal Foundation, Hilarie Grey said this year has been like no other with an influx of stray dogs coming through their door.
“Our intakes are over 20% higher than they were, this time last year. As we look at the data, there was actually a 10-year trend of intakes going down pre-pandemic and then post-pandemic as the cost of everything went up due to unemployment issues and lack of housing in Las Vegas, it’s all played a role in people not being able to afford pets,” Grey shared.
Adoptions were on a first-come, first-served basis. The Animal Foundation has also launched a new pet support line that can assist those interested in adopting a stray animal in their neighborhood. Those interested can reach the pet support hotline at 702-955-5932.
