Dog dragged by car begins recovery
July 29, 2024
We have an update on our sweet Gatsby!
Gatsby is slowly improving, and our veterinary team is closely monitoring his leg, where healthy tissue is now forming. While we're hopeful it will heal on its own, amputation remains a possibility.
Gatsby is currently receiving pain medications and antibiotics, and he's eating well. We're cleaning the wound regularly to prevent infection as he continues to heal.
Gatsby arrived at The Animal Foundation with a deep, exposed wound, likely from being dragged by a car, but thanks to your support, he's getting the care he needs.
Gatsby is available for adoption or transfer to a rescue partner, but he'll require sedated bandage changes with a veterinarian every couple of days.
Your donations have made a huge difference in his journey. Thank you for your support!

Gatsby arrived at The Animal Foundation with a t-shirt wrapped around his leg.
Underneath the shirt - a deep wound where muscle and bone were exposed, covered in road grime.
Quivering in pain and limping through our halls, 3-year-old Gatsby needed medical attention after likely being dragged by a car.
His 46lb body bears severe road rash from a car tire or the asphalt. He was uncomfortable but incredibly sweet.
Our veterinary team is cleaning his wound regularly and giving him antibiotics and pain medication, but Gatsby will likely need care beyond what the shelter can provide.
Due to the severity of his injury, continued wound care may not provide a resolution and his leg may need amputation for a pain-free life. The cost of his care is high, and your support can make all the difference.
Please donate now to give Gatsby the chance at the happy, healthy life he deserves. Every dollar counts.
Together, we can make sure Gatsby gets the medical care he needs and deserves. Thank you!
