Hi, my name is *BLITZEN
There is no other way to say it, Blitzen is a hidden gem of a pup!
Blitzen is a popular boy at The Animal Foundation - he participates in playgroup where he has been designated as a gentle and dainty player with the other dogs, he goes on group park walks where he is working on learning leash skills, he is going through the Acedemy of Canine Etiquette with one of our behavior team members, he has been on a few foster field trips, and last but not least - he is marked as a "potty dog" which means he tries to keep his kennel clean and has shown signs of being potty trained.
Some notes from Blitzen's foster field trips include:
"He had a great time at the park - he loved walking on the trails, sniffing everything along the way, climbing on rocks, and just exploring in general. He was a great sport and posed for photos, sat on cue, and showed off his big and goofy grin. On the way home he laid calmly in the car and was much more relaxed."
"Blitzen A1352677 and I rented a Sniffspot today for his field trip, and he had so much fun! He got to run & romp to his heart's desire while chasing his assortment of balls, try to swim (definitely not a fan), pose for four million photos, and get lots of belly rubs while laying on a comfy chaise. He LOVES tennis balls, they are his absolute favorite toy and he will entertain himself for hours playing with one. He already knows how to sit and is working on learning lots more. He's very treat motivated and loves soft treats, jerky treats, and cheese."
"I took Blitzen for a field trip today and he did amazing! He is super sweet and loves to cuddle. We think he may have been around cats because of some of his behaviors like rubbing up on you and loafing. We took him home for a little bit and he met our cat and was very friendly with him. We took him to the park and he loved meeting other dogs and running around. He met a couple of people and was friendly to each one of them. We had an amazing day getting to know Blitzen and are thankful for the time we could spend with him!"
My Special Considerations
Blitzen is one of our longest residents, he arrived to TAF in December of 2024 and would love some help finding a home. He is displaying signs of kennel distress and anxiety in the shelter in the form of hard barking at some staff members who walk by him. Out of the kennel, he allows all handling and has been social with everyone that he has met here. He loves attention and will plop down at your feet for a belly rub and rub against your legs to solicit attention. He regularly attends playgroup, and is noted to have a gentle and dainty play style. He was recently promoted to be a helper dog in playgroup! Blitzen is also participating in group park walks, and is doing training in our ACE program (Academy of Shelter Etiquette). Blitzen has also met a cat while in foster and was reported to be friendly and did well with the cat. He has been on a few foster field trips and loves going on adventures and exploring with people. This animal would benefit from a calmer environment and training to be able to cope with changing environments and separation.
