The Animal Foundation Receives $1,500,000 from Petco Foundation to Help Fund ‘Mission: Possible 2020’

Grant will support completion of the shelter’s new campus and help grow the shelter’s variety of lifesaving programs

Las Vegas – The Animal Foundation has received a grant for $1,500,000 from the Petco Foundation to support the construction of the shelter’s new Engelstad Family Adoption Center and the growth of the shelter’s variety of animal lifesaving programs. When completed in 2019, the Engelstad Family Adoption Center will provide a permanent facility with safe and comfortable adoption areas for cats and other small animals, as well as administration offices and community education facilities. Among the shelter’s variety of lifesaving efforts are its spay/neuter initiative, its Dogs Playing for Life enrichment program and its program designed to keep animals and their owners together through temporary setbacks.

“Thanks to this generous grant, The Animal Foundation is closer than ever to its Mission: Possible 2020 commitment to save all healthy and treatable animals who come into our care by the end of 2020,” said Daniel Neel, Chief Finance and Development Officer for The Animal Foundation. “With the continued support of The Petco Foundation, I am confident that our progress in caring for animals will only accelerate in the years ahead.”

"The Petco Foundation is proud to support The Animal Foundation in our shared mission to find loving homes for animals," said Susanne Kogut, President of the Petco Foundation. "Our love for animals is why we seek to partner with organizations, like the Animal Foundation, that share our commitment to creating a lifesaving nation. Together we will work with a relentless determination to save animal lives."

Operating as Nevada’s largest open-admission animal shelter, The Animal Foundation provides refuge and healthcare for thousands of helpless animals annually. The Mission: Possible 2020 initiative to save all healthy and treatable animals who come into The Animal Foundation’s care by the end of 2020 was unveiled in 2015.

The Animal Foundation is open daily from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. For more information and to view adoptable pets, please visit animalfoundation.com.

About Petco Foundation

At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life. Since 1999, we’ve invested more than $200 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions.
