Microchip Miracle: Dog Found Alive After Six Years Missing

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A six-year heartbreak turned to relief in a single phone call when a local pet owner learned her missing dog had been found alive, according to a social media post from The Animal Foundation.
In 2019, Diana’s dog, Lucy, slipped through a gate in her backyard and disappeared. She spent weeks searching by posting flyers, sharing Lucy’s photo on social media, and reaching out everywhere she could. Despite the efforts, Lucy was nowhere to be found.
“I thought Lucy was dead,” Diana told the shelter.
That changed recently when Lucy was brought to The Animal Foundation as a stray. Staff scanned her microchip, which led them to Diana, leading to the unlikely reunion six years in the making.
“She was four when I lost her. She’s ten now,” Diana said. “That’s why you microchip your pets.”
Officials with The Animal Foundation say the reunion is a reminder of how important microchipping can be.
They also urge pet owners to keep their contact information updated, so a lost pet can be returned home as quickly as possible.
