My Name Is *BUSTER!

Buster is an estimated one-year-old boy who may have arrived at the shelter as a stray, but he’s already showing us that he’s a smart, treat-loving young pup with plenty of potential!

Buster knows how to “sit” on command—especially when treats are involved! He’s absolutely obsessed with treats and will happily show off his “sit” when he knows there’s a tasty reward waiting. He’s still working on the “stay” part, though. Sometimes Buster interprets “sit” as “sit… then launch myself into the air!”

And that pretty much sums up our big young boy. He’s young, energetic, strong, and still learning how to manage all that enthusiasm. Buster is working on his impulse control and can get jumpy, so he’ll need a confident handler who is comfortable managing a large, strong dog.

But underneath all that youthful exuberance is a dog with so much room to grow. At just around a year old, Buster is at a wonderful age to learn. He will thrive with positive training, clear boundaries, structure, and consistent routines—all the things that help young dogs understand what’s expected of them and become the best versions of themselves.

Keep in mind that he’s also stressed here at the shelter so that could be another reason why it’s a little harder for him to settle when he gets taken out for walks. With time to decompress in a home environment, he could greatly improve!

Buster isn’t looking for someone who expects him to have it all figured out already. He’s looking for someone who sees the big, goofy, treat-obsessed young dog he is today and the wonderful companion he can become with some guidance and patience. So, if you’re ready for a big boy with a big personality, lots of energy, and an even bigger capacity to learn, Buster might just be your guy.

My Special Considerations

Buster is not adapting well to being in a kennel at the shelter and is displaying signs of kennel distress and anxiety. This animal would benefit from a calmer environment and training to be able to cope with changing environments and separation. He is Very jumpy and mouthy on and off the leash. This animal needs placement by 9/20 at 3 PM.

UPDATE: This animal has shown some improvements and is beginning to respond to interventions provided. The commitment date is being extended to assess if further improvements will be made with intervention. The commitment date is being extended from (9/18) to (9/20).

This dog was diagnosed with an infectious respiratory disease and needs to be isolated from other dogs through 9/25 while being treated. UPDATE: This animal has shown some improvements and is beginning to respond to interventions provided.
