The Dog I Almost Walked Away From

When I first saw Velvet at the shelter, she barked at me from inside her kennel, and for a moment I almost walked away. But since it was almost my turn to meet her, I decided to wait for our 15 minutes together — and that decision changed everything! In those few minutes, I met a completely different dog: playful, curious, and full of life. She grabbed a ball, ran by my side, and I saw the gentle and loving dog she truly is.

We took her in as a foster, but from day one we knew — she was home. She’s the perfect companion, with the most beautiful golden eyes, and a personality that keeps us laughing. Who knew this cutie could snore like an old man and would use her bed for only half of her body?😂 She’s very food motivated, and her special talent? Chewing cow hooves — she can finish one in a single day and even uses it to calm down when we get home.

When Velvet was found, she was underweight and described as fearful. But she’s incredibly smart, and I saw her potential immediately.
Five months later, she’s confident, calm, and thriving. She loves fetch, tug-o-war, and sniffing the treats I hide for her.

Before Velvet, I rarely left the house. Now we’re exploring the world! I gave her a home, and in return she gave me confidence, freedom, and unconditional love. My days are more colorful because she’s in them. She is the best friend I didn’t know I needed and I treasure every moment of our lives together.🩷
