Meet Simone (A1423521) better known as Stormi in her foster home!

Stormi is a spayed 2-year-old female Cane Corso mix who has spent far too much time waiting for someone to choose her. We’ve gotten to know her outside of the shelter, and she is truly such a sweet, easygoing girl.

A little about Stormi:

Dog friendly: She is very calm and curious around other dogs. She doesn’t immediately try to initiate play and is happy just hanging out and observing. Slow introductions are always best so everyone can get comfortable. She participated in play groups during her time at the shelter.

Seems kid friendly: She recently met a little girl at the clinic while waiting for her appointment who was right up in her space, and Stormi was completely comfortable and quite excited to see her. She also has let us touch her food and pet her while eating so no signs of resource guarding. As always, introductions and supervision are important with any new dog and kiddos!

Cats are unknown: We haven’t been able to test her with cats. However, she currently has shown zero prey drive, so she may be able to live with a cat with slow, controlled introductions.

LOVES people: This girl is a professional cuddler. She wants belly rubs, pets, and to be as close to her people as physically possible. If she can lean against you, sleep next to you, or convince you to keep rubbing her belly, she’s more than happy.

Great at home: She is calm when left alone and mostly just sleeps. She’s potty trained, knows sit, come, and stay, loves chewing on bones, and is generally a pretty chill girl.

Currently recovering from cherry eye surgery, so she’s getting some extra TLC while she heals.

She’s still figuring out what toys are supposed to be for, but she’s already decided that cuddling with her humans and chewing on a good bone are much more her speed. We’re currently working on leash training. She walks on leash but can pull when she’s nervous or isn’t sure about going somewhere, so she’ll benefit from a patient adopter who can continue building her confidence.

Stormi would be such a wonderful companion for someone looking for a big, affectionate girl who mostly wants to hang out with her people and be loved.

Meet Simone, a young girl who appreciates a slow approach, but is deeply loyal once she knows she is safe! While initial shelter notes describe her as scared and nervous, Simone warms up quickly. In the yard, she bonded quickly with her handler, leaning her entire body in close for head scratches and pets.
Simone is a true shadow companion who loves to stay right by her person’s side rather than exploring on her own. She prefers human connection over treats or play, showing little interest in toys or snacks.
Volunteer observations show she may actually have previous training! When leashed, she initially stayed in place until given the release word "Free," after which she immediately stood up and walked. On walks, she leads slightly and gives small tugs, but overall walks very well on a leash. She also remains calm and non-reactive around other dogs in the play yard environment.
If you would like to get to know her better outside of the shelter environment, ask staff about our foster programs to give Simone a well-deserved break from the kennel. Come meet Simone today!
