Lost a pet? Found a pet? Call (702)760-PETS !

Losing a pet is stressful, but you don’t have to go through it alone. We’ve gathered the most important steps and resources to help you search, spread the word, and increase your chances of being reunited with your companion. Use the buttons below to get started right away.

What to Do if You’ve Lost a Dog

Walk around your neighborhood or the area where the dog was lost

Ask neighbors to check their garages, under cars, and their yards. Call the dog’s name, stop, and listen frequently. Do not chase a lost pet. If you see your pet, sit on the ground and talk to them in a normal voice, offer treats, and take your time.

Is your dog microchipped?

Contact the microchip company where your dog is registered and make sure the contact information associated with the chip is correct.

Upload a photo of your pet to Petco Love Lost

Their facial recognition software will alert you if someone has found a dog that looks similar to your dog and even checks the animals listed on The Animal Foundation’s Lost & Found page.

Search our Lost & Found page

Lost pets picked up in the cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, or Clark County are brought to The Animal Foundation. Search our Lost & Found page to see all the animals currently in our shelter. If you have lost an animal in the City of Henderson, please contact Henderson Animal Control at 702-267-4970 or visit their website. If you find your dog on our Lost & Found page, you can click here to learn more about claiming them.

Create a flyer

Use your Petco Love Lost post to create a flyer (available on their website). Post that flyer around the area where the dog was lost, on mailboxes, bulletin boards, local vet clinics, pet supply stores, etc. You will be able to be notified if someone finds your pet through the app without having to post your personal information on the flyer itself.

Create a post on social media

Create posts on social media (Nextdoor, local Facebook groups for lost pets, etc.) with clear photos of your dog. Provide information about your pet, where they were lost, how to best approach them, and your contact information.

Review social media posts

Review social media posts to see if anyone has posted your dog as found.

Don’t give up!

When you have found your dog, update your social media posts and remove any flyers.

What to Do if You’ve Lost a Cat

Walk around your neighborhood or the area where the cat was lost

Ask neighbors to check their garages, under cars, and their yards. Call the cat’s name, stop, and listen frequently. Do not chase a lost pet. If you see your pet, sit on the ground and talk to them in a normal voice, offer treats, and take your time.

Leave things with your cat’s scent outside.

Place items that smell strongly of your home around your property. You could leave their food, litterbox, cat tree, blanket, etc. This will spread the scent in the area, making it easier for your cat to find their way home. Be sure to provide a way for them to get inside or a place for them to hide on your property.

Is your cat microchipped?

Contact the microchip company where your cat is registered and make sure the contact information associated with the chip is correct.

What You Need to Know About the 72-Hour Legal Hold

Lost pets brought to The Animal Foundation are under the jurisdiction of City of Las Vegas, City of North Las Vegas, or Clark County Animal Protection Services for 72 hours, then the animals are released to The Animal Foundation for adoption.

This means lost pets are held for 72 hours, unless claimed sooner by their owners.

Owners of pets with identification will be contacted via phone and/or email. After the 72-hour hold, animals will be evaluated and may no longer be available to reclaim.

Stray cats with no identification brought to The Animal Foundation from the jurisdictions of the City of Las Vegas and Clark County are exempt from the 72-hour legal hold and may be evaluated for adoption upon intake. In most cases, community cats are also excluded from the legal hold requirement and may be evaluated immediately.

Claiming Your Lost Pet

Our Lost and Found department is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 am – 7 pm. To claim your lost pet at The Animal Foundation, come to the shelter immediately. You must bring:

  • A photo of your pet
  • Veterinary records
  • Proof of rabies vaccine*
  • Current and valid breeders or fanciers license, if applicable**

*If your pet’s rabies vaccination is not current, we will administer the vaccination and you will be charged upon departure.

**All jurisdictions (City of Las Vegas, City of North Las Vegas and Clark County) enforce a mandatory spay/neuter ordinance. All animals at the shelter will be spayed/neutered before departure unless you provide a current and valid breeders and fanciers license upon reclamation.

Reclamation Fees & Financial Assistance

We are committed to reuniting pets with their families. If reclaiming your pet creates a financial hardship, please talk with our team—we may be able to reduce or waive fees.

Transportation an issue? We are currently piloting an RTO (Return-to-Owner) shuttle program to help bring pets home. If you need assistance, let our staff know. (Availability may be limited.)
