New Foster Incentive Program Launches Monday, September 15

The Animal Foundation Foster Incentive

The Animal Foundation is launching a limited-time foster incentive program to help ease our ongoing space crisis. From Monday, September 15, through Friday, September 19, community members who foster a large dog will receive a $200 incentive after successfully fostering for 30 days.

To qualify, dogs must:

  • Weigh 35 pounds or more
  • Be six months or older
  • Be picked up from the shelter between September 15–19

Fosters can now take advantage of our new walk-in fostering program, starting at 8:00 am daily. During this time, potential fosters can head straight to the foster window in the adoption lobby to bring home a dog.

The Animal Foundation will provide all the necessary supplies—including food—so you have everything you need to succeed. We recommend completing a foster application in advance to save time when you arrive:

Why We’re Launching This Incentive

The Animal Foundation has been at or near capacity for much of the year. Large dogs, in particular, struggle to find space in the shelter because they often spend the longest time waiting for adoption. On top of this, we recently received a large intake of cats from a hoarding case, many requiring extensive medical and behavioral care.

We haven’t seen a lull in intakes in far too long—and we’re not alone. Shelters across the country are facing the same crisis. Offering this incentive is one way we can encourage more community members to step up, provide temporary homes, and help save lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your foster dog is adopted during the 30-day period, you can still qualify for the $200 incentive by selecting another eligible dog during the promotion period. As long as you foster for a cumulative total of 30 days, you will still receive the payment.

We’ve run this program before and saw dozens of good-intentioned people come forward to help. Every foster is screened through our application process, and staff provide ongoing support to ensure the dog’s well-being. The $200 incentive is not a “payment for dogs”—it’s a way to encourage those who may be on the fence about fostering to take the leap, or to provide a small financial boost to those who would have fostered anyway.

No. The Animal Foundation will provide you with the essential supplies you need—including food—so fostering doesn’t add financial strain to your household.

No problem! Our team will guide you through everything you need to know. Fostering is easier than ever with our new walk-in system, and staff are available to answer any questions along the way.

Large dogs often spend the longest in the shelter, which makes them the most at risk when space is tight. By fostering them, you not only free up kennel space for other animals but also give these dogs the comfort of a home while they wait for adoption.

Our shelter is in a constant space crisis, and recent intakes—including a large hoarding case of cats—have made the situation even more urgent. With community help, we can prevent overcrowding, reduce stress and illness in the shelter, and save more lives.
