Being a Foster Ambassador means going beyond just opening your home—it means opening doors. You’re not only giving a pet a safe place to land, you’re helping them land their forever family. Whether you’re snapping the perfect photo, writing the bio that wins hearts, or being their wingperson at an adoption event, you’re their voice. Their advocate. Their chance.

What is a Foster Ambassador?

Foster Ambassadors are foster caregivers with a mission. If you come in just to foster a dog long-term and decide you want to help them find home, you can become a Foster Ambassador. These special fosters commit to keeping their pet out of the shelter and actively promote them for adoption—through social media, word of mouth, and community outreach.

You’ll be invited to offsite adoption events to help promote your dog or cat to help them find a home. We provide your foster pet with food the whole time. Animals with a Foster Ambassador remain listed on our website so potential adopters can see them and inquire. If we receive adoption inquiries, we’ll send you their information so we can help you arrange a meet-and-greet. You don’t need a huge following—just heart, hustle, and a bit of creativity.

Why Foster Ambassadors Matter

Many pets—especially dogs—don’t thrive in the shelter. They might be overwhelmed by the noise and stress. They may be recovering from a medical procedure. Or they may just need a little extra time and attention that’s hard to come by in a kennel environment.

That’s where you come in.

By keeping them out of the shelter and in your home, you’re giving them stability, safety, and visibility. And when you find them an adopter, you’re creating space for another animal who needs help.

What You’ll Do as a Foster Ambassador

We’ll set you up with all the tools you need to promote your foster pet and help them find a home, but your main roles as a foster ambassador are:

  • Welcome a foster pet into your home and care for them until they’re adopted
  • Share photos, videos, and updates to help market them
  • Talk about your foster! Promote them on walks, at adoption events, and to friends and neighbors
  • Complete the adoption from home with our team’s support (so they never have to return to the shelter)
  • Be their cheerleader every step of the way

Tips for Success

Want to give your foster the best chance? Here are some tried-and-true tricks:

Post Them Online Often

Consistency is key! Share regular updates about your foster pet on your personal social media accounts like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, as well as in local Facebook groups and neighborhood platforms like Nextdoor. You don’t need a huge following—just genuine enthusiasm. Talk about your foster like you would a friend you’re trying to set up with someone special. Highlight their personality, funny quirks, habits, routines, and all the little things that make them unique. The more people see and connect with your foster, the better their chances of finding a forever home.

Take High-Quality Photos & Videos

Clear, engaging visuals are what stop the scroll.
Photos and videos are often what spark that first connection, so make sure yours are eye-catching and clear. Use natural lighting whenever possible—outdoor light or indirect sunlight from a window works best. Skip the flash and filters, and try to get down on your foster’s level for more personal, engaging shots. Focus on capturing their personality, whether that’s them mid-zoomie, snoozing in a sunbeam, playing with a toy, or giving you their best head tilt. These glimpses into real life help adopters picture what life with your foster might be like.

Send us your best photos and videos!

If you take video (and we hope you do!), please send us unedited, vertical footage. That format gives us the best chance of featuring your foster on our social media platforms, including Instagram Reels, Facebook Stories, and TikTok. While we can’t promise every clip will be used, we’re always looking for great content to help your foster shine.

Capture Real-Life Moments

You don’t need to stage anything fancy—some of the most effective content is simple and authentic. Show your foster pet doing everyday things like cuddling on the couch, walking politely on leash, learning a new trick, or calmly observing their surroundings. Videos of positive interactions with other pets or people are also incredibly helpful. These natural moments help potential adopters imagine your foster as part of their own lives.

Write a Bio That Tells a Story

A great bio can be the difference between someone scrolling past and someone filling out an application. Share what makes your foster special—are they a sensitive soul who loves quiet mornings, a goofy goofball who lives for fetch, or a cuddle bug who follows you from room to room? Mention their favorite activities, their routine, and anything unique about their behavior or preferences. Be honest, warm, and specific. Also include helpful notes like whether they’re house-trained, crate-trained, or working on any particular skills.

Tag Us + Use Hashtags

When you post about your foster, don’t forget to tag @animalfoundation so we can see and share your content. Including hashtags like #AdoptDontShop, #LasVegasDogs, #FosterDog, and #AdoptMe helps your posts reach even more people in your community—and beyond.
