My Name Is *KALOOUH!
Killua is a 3-year-old neutered male who came into the shelter as a stray, and while we’re still getting to know him, he’s already shown us what a sweet and gentle boy he is. He was a little nervous at first — understandable in a loud shelter environment — but it didn’t take long for him to warm up and start seeking out affection from his humans. Once he feels comfortable, he’ll quietly come up to you for pets, and his soft, velvety coat makes him extra hard to stop cuddling. With his adorable wrinkly face, he even looks like he might have a little Sharpei mixed in there somewhere.
Killua is more of a calm, thoughtful guy right now. He enjoys slowly sniffing around the perimeter of the play yard, taking everything in at his own pace. He hasn’t shown much interest in toys yet, but that’s not unusual for dogs still adjusting to shelter life — and we imagine his personality will continue to blossom once he feels safe and settled.
One thing he already clearly loves? Walks. Killua is wonderful on leash and enjoys strolling along at a nice, easy pace, making him a very easy companion to handle. He seems happiest simply spending quiet time with his people and exploring the world one sniff at a time.
Here's how Kaloouh did on a Foster Field Trip recently!
"Kaloouh did great today! Very calm on the leash. NO reactivity towards anyone. We sat and watched the kids playing, people bbqing, kids and adults riding bikes and scooters and he sat calmly relaxing and watching everyone do what they were doing. No reactivity towards the birds. He is such a sweet pup and willing to listen and follow. He did great in the car, he stood in one spot in the back seat just observed everything."
Sadly, Killua is not adapting well to being in a kennel at the shelter and is displaying signs of kennel distress and anxiety. He would love to go to a forever home – or even a foster home – to decompress and feel safe.
My Special Considerations
*Kaloouh is not adapting well to being in a kennel at the shelter and is displaying signs of kennel distress and anxiety. *Kaloouh is a sweet but nervous boy who is nervous of strangers. He has warmed up to staff and enjoys going out on walks and working on his skills like sit, down, and recall. He is very treat motivated and is ready to learn whenever treats are around. He is struggling in his kennel. Barrier reactive towards people and dogs. He is fecal tracking, and attempting to cage fight but able to break his focus. He needs out of the shelter to be able to decompress in a calmer environment. This animal would benefit from a calmer environment and training to be able to cope with changing environments and separation.
