My Special Considerations

Hank is not adapting well to the shelter environment and exhibiting signs of fear and kennel distress. Hank is not leash trained. He trashes, alligator rolls, bites at the leash, and has caused injury to his mouth from biting at the metal clip on flat leashes. Despite the fear he is experiencing, he is a beautiful boy with soft eyes who could use a chance to decompress and come around to new experiences and environments. When on leash, he does not walk consistently and often resist by stopping or refusing to move along with whining and trying to escape. With patience and positive reinforcement, he has the potential to improve significantly. He has now allowed staff to get him out of the kennel on leash and walks better with a harness. He does need to learn some basic skills on leash as he doesn't seem to quite understand how it works. He is warming up with staff quickly seeking attention and approaching staff on his own. He also enjoys running around with other soft playful friends. This animal would benefit from a quieter place to adjust and become more comfortable with social and environmental changes. UPDATE: This animal has shown some improvements and is beginning to respond to interventions provided. The commitment date is being extended to assess if further improvements will be made with intervention. The commitment date is being extended from 4/19 to 4/23 by 3pm
