My Name Is *SUNCHIPS!
If there were an Olympic sport for sniffing, Sunchips would take home the gold. Sniff, sniff… and sniff some more — it’s truly her favorite pastime.
This estimated 4-year-old sweetheart arrived at the shelter at the end of February 2026, so everything is still very new to her. With all the unfamiliar sounds and scents, she’s been busy taking it all in the best way she knows how: nose to the ground, fully committed to her scent investigations. At first, I could barely get her to look up — the smells were just too interesting!
But once she’d gotten her fill, she finally lifted her head and showed off her pretty face… and that smile. Somehow she manages to look both adorable and a little goofy at the same time. There’s something so silly and endearing about her expression — you can’t help but smile back.
Sunchips may not immediately lock eyes with you or shower you with attention, and that’s okay. Shelter dogs need time to feel safe and decide when they’re ready to connect. Please don’t be deterred if she doesn’t take to you right away. Patience is the key to unlocking her sweetest moments.
And oh, are they worth it.
Once she’s done exploring, she’ll suddenly pop up on her hind legs to get closer to you — like she’s saying, “Okay, I’m ready now.” That’s when the treat radar kicks in. She quickly realized my apron held the goodies and wasted no time enthusiastically shoving her entire muzzle inside my treat pouch to investigate. It was impossible not to laugh.
Sunchips is a real sweetheart with a curious spirit and a playful and silly charm. Give her a little time, a few good sniffs, and some tasty treats, and she’ll show you just how wonderful she is.
