My Name Is *MARLINDA!

I'm currently relaxing in foster care, and loving it!! Here's what my foster family has said about my time in foster care!

"Marlinda is a sweet, gentle girl who is still learning about the world and quickly discovering how nice it is to be part of a home. When she first arrived in foster care she wasn’t shy, just a little reserved. She was happiest simply being near her person—quietly relaxing in the same room or laying beside you. She doesn’t demand constant attention, but she does enjoy companionship and prefers not to be left alone for long periods.

She bonded very quickly with the resident dog in her foster home. Within a short time of meeting, she was happily running around the backyard and playing. Marlinda enjoys toys and will happily chase a ball when it’s thrown—sometimes even bringing it back! Having another dog around seems to help her learn routines and feel confident.

Marlinda is still working on basic training. She appears to have had little to no formal training before coming to the shelter, but she is eager to learn and has already made good progress. She is currently being potty trained and is doing well, especially by following the example of the other dog in the home. She now has only occasional accidents as she continues to learn. She will come when called with “come here,” though it seems she may not recognize her name yet—so her adopter could easily choose a new one. She is also beginning to learn “sit,” particularly when she can watch another dog demonstrate what to do.

She sleeps peacefully in her kennel overnight (about 11pm to 8am) and often chooses to go into her kennel on her own during the day when she wants to relax. When corrected for something, she tends to respond by calmly removing herself and settling in her kennel.

Marlinda has been improving on leash with daily walks. Occasionally she will get excited and grab the leash briefly, but she lets go quickly when told. With a little continued guidance and consistency, she should keep improving.

When Marlinda first arrived at her foster home, she had some skin irritation—red, swollen paws and a rash on the inside of her back legs. Her paws improved quickly with Epsom salt soaks, and the rash has been getting better with care. She may have sensitive skin or environmental allergies, as she sometimes gets itchy or pink under her fur after playing outside in the yard. Regular baths seem to help her feel much better. Her future adopter may want to continue monitoring her skin and discuss any sensitivities with their veterinarian if needed.

Very little is known about Marlinda’s life before arriving at the shelter other than that she was listed as a confiscation case. Despite whatever she may have been through, she has shown herself to be a kind, adaptable dog who bonds easily and enjoys being part of a family.

Marlinda would likely thrive in a patient home willing to continue her training and help her build confidence. She has already shown that she learns quickly, especially with positive guidance and the companionship of another friendly dog.

She’s a good dog with a gentle heart who is ready for a fresh start and a family of her own."

My Special Considerations

*Marlinda is not adapting well to being in a kennel at the shelter and is displaying signs of kennel distress and anxiety. This animal would benefit from a calmer environment and training to be able to cope with changing environments and separation.
