My Special Considerations
Presto is not adapting well in a kennel at the shelter and is exhibiting barrier frustration towards team members and other stimuli. He has previously been seen instigating cage fighting with his neighbors, he is extremely barrier reactive when passing kennels, he is also showing other signs of kennel distress such as jumping, heavy panting, and drooling. He is fun loving and active, and is learning better impulse control, manners, and how best to channel all that energy!
Presto can become frustrated and reactive; he needs an experienced handler to continue his training. He would benefit greatly from a stable environment where he could continue to progress. Unfortunately, the shelter is not conducive to his training and progress as he is growing more stressed and frustrated despite interventions.
Additionally, this dog shows dog-selective behaviors, they get along well with some dogs, but not all. They may have preferences about which dogs they’re comfortable around and can sometimes struggle to be socially appropriate with certain others. With ongoing training, supervision, and proper introductions, their interactions with other dogs can continue to improve. We recommend slow, structured introductions to new dogs to ensure positive experiences. Presto can be described as obnoxious and rude when playing with other dogs, but he is showing progress with his dog-to-dog manners.
This animal would benefit from a calmer environment and training to be able to cope with changing environments and kenneling. This animal needs placement by 5/9 at 3 PM.
