My Name Is LUKE!
Luke is a 7-year-old neutered gentleman who’s ready to head home with you today. This sweet senior came to us as a stray, and while we don’t know much about his past, we do know he’s very happy to be out and about enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
Luke is the definition of an independent soul. When we first spent time together, he wasn’t very interested in toys or treats — and honestly, he didn’t seem too concerned about impressing me either. Instead, he was focused on what really matters to him: a good walk and all the fascinating sights and smells that come with it. The world is his entertainment, and he’s content just taking it all in.
He absolutely loves his walks and happily saunters around the shelter grounds with a calm, steady pace. He walks like a dream on leash and seems most relaxed when he’s outdoors, exploring at his own speed. Luke would likely feel even more comfortable with a little weight loss to help his mobility (he’s currently 80 lbs!), but he’s already got that easygoing stroll perfected.
While he allowed pets and even a few hugs, Luke can come across as a bit indifferent at first. He’s not the kind of dog who immediately showers you with affection — and that’s okay. Some dogs just need a little more time to feel safe and connected. Don’t be deterred if he doesn’t seek your attention right away. With patience and consistency, he may very well show you his softer side in his own quiet way.
Luke would thrive in a home that appreciates a low-key, mature companion — someone who values peaceful walks, calm company, and giving a dog the space to settle in at his own pace. If you’re looking for a steady, independent buddy to share gentle strolls and quiet days, Luke might just be your guy.
My Special Considerations
This pup is being spotlighted for one reason only, time. They have been overlooked in the shelter for far too long, and would love a break from the shelter environment where they can relax and just be a dog. The longer they stay in the shelter, the higher the risk of them deteriorating behaviorally and/or medically. If you'd like to foster or adopt this pup, please come in to meet them!
