Reclaiming and Fees

We are proud to reunite thousands of lost pets with their owners each year.
In the unfortunate event that your beloved pet becomes lost,
please review the following requirements for claiming your lost pet at our facility.

•Claiming your lost pet

Lost pets brought to the The Animal Foundation are legally required to be held for 72 hours. In most cases community cats are excluded from this legal requirement and may be evaluated immediately. Owners of animals with identification will be contacted via phone and/or email. You can view our pets online. Our database is updated hourly. After the 72 hour hold, animals will be evaluated and may no longer be available to reclaim. If you lose your pet, we strongly recommend you visit The Animal Foundation immediately.

Our Lost and Found Department is open daily from 10am-7pm. To claim your lost animal at our shelter, you must bring:

  • A photo of your pet

  • Veterinary records

  • Proof of rabies vaccine*

  • Current and valid breeders or fanciers license, if applicable**

•Reclamation Fees

Each jurisdiction requires residents to pay impound fees for lost animals housed at our shelter during their stay. Fees are set by each jurisdiction, not The Animal Foundation. (Click here to determine your jurisdiction).
